? Wear Denim, Raise Hope: Jeans for Genes Day – 7th August ? Today, Thursday 7th August, Calacare staff are proudly wearing our favourite jeans to mark Jeans for Genes Day - a national initiative supporting the Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI). It’s a simple way to stand together for a bigger cause: finding treatments and cures for children living with genetic conditions. Why we’re taking part: In Australia, 1 in 20 children is born with a genetic disease or birth defect - conditions like cystic fibrosis, childhood cancer, metabolic disorders or neurological disorders. Jeans for Genes began in 1994 and, over the past 31 years, has raised more than $65.7 million to fund medical research that helps give kids a chance to just be kids again. How we're joining in: Our office staff are wearing jeans to work and have encouraged our support workers to do the same, along side donations from the team, with 100% of funds going directly to CMRI to support breakthroughs in gene therapy and paediatric research.

At Calacare, we like to keep things rock solid, so last month we gifted one of our support workers a googly-eyed companion to take on his day to day adventures. Rocky Balboa: βœ”οΈ Emotionally stable βœ”οΈ Always grounded βœ”οΈ Zero complaints Day 1: He’s already imprinted. This bond is stronger than most workplace friendships. Day 2: Rocky took over. Jack hasn’t won a round since. Zero thumbs, still cracked at Fortnite. Day 3: Big day for the team. One got a new tattoo, one got a rock, and one is a rock. Our Day Programs are well and truly underway and we are lovely every second!! This week our participants had a go at Resin Art, making key chains and teddy bear ornaments. They turned out great and the participants really got stuck in creating beautiful designs? The following Program was Creative Writing and Drawing. The participants had 4 tasks to complete, including the one above, where the task was to write or draw about an activity you'd love to experience. Finally, we had our fortnightly Pizza and Games Program which, once again, had an amazing turn out, with some very yummy pizzas being created and eaten. On a final note, we can't forget to make a special mention to the new farm friends we have at the office: chickens, ducks and Gwen, the baby lamb who makes occasional appearances ? Both staff and participants are loving the additional friends here at the Calacare office.
